Summary and Directions: Your Chapter’s Activity Options for February

HSAFP Executive Team February 5, 2025

As you probably know, HSAFP chapters vary in size, location, the number of meetings they hold per month, and their local connections and support. Due to these reasons, we wanted to provide you all with some different options so that your Chapter Officers can decide which activities will fit your chapter’s current wants, needs, and abilities!

Chapter Officers, we highly recommended that you all ask members what activities they would like to participate in/help with (try using your Connect private school group!).

Main Task for Chapter Officers:

Please have all Chapter Officers read through these February event options individually. Then, Chapter Officers will discuss these options and plan to at least schedule one of these events:

  1. Hosting or Volunteering at a Blood Drive
  2. Hosting a Small Community Heart Health Fair
  3. HSAFP Chapter Goals: Heart Health
  4. Exercise or Give Blood with a New HSAFP Buddy

You are welcome to plan any or all of these events!

This photograph perspective symbolizes that these tasks are for "you" (all HSAFP members), since the viewpoint is of that person's.

Tasks for All HSAFP Members:

1. All members, including Chapter Officers, will want to read through the following lessons:

2. Help your Chapter Officers with anything that they need for the hands-on event/events (see the four events above).

3. Make plans to exercise or give blood with a (new) friend from HSAFP in February!

4. If you have social media, participate in Heart Month (#OurHearts and #HSAFP) through sharing educational materials (you can also see HSAFP Management’s official Instagram for updates and reposts of your chapter posts and individual posts in February)!

Please see the Social Media for Heart Month Lesson for more information.

5. Check out the biggest advances in cardiovascular health in 2024, according to the American Heart Association!

🫀 Fact #2: According to Birhau Teshale et al.‘s 2023 study in the Journal of the American Heart Association, economic circumstances and early childhood development are some of the social determinants of health (SDoH) that can increase the risk of heart diseases.

Oh! In case you didn’t know: social determinants of health are defined as “any social, economic, or environmental factor that influences a health outcome” (Birhau Teshale et al., 2023, p. 1).
